The Central SoMa area in San Francisco, set for rapid development through the Central SoMa Plan, has faced significant challenges post-pandemic. Initially designed to create 16 million square feet of new housing and office space, the project has stalled due to a drastic decline in the office market, resulting in many planned projects not even starting. With nearby neighborhoods gaining attention, the city is now revising the plan to focus more on housing and retail to revitalize the area. Local businesses express concern about being overlooked amidst these changes.
The pandemic obliterated the overall office market, and most planned Central SoMa Plan projects have not yet broken ground, highlighting the plan's failure.
We were really banking on the Central SoMa plan when we purchased our property in 2017. I do feel like our neighborhood has been a little forgotten.
