Ballard: Protecting our communities from future floods - San Jose Spotlight
Briefly

The Coyote Creek Flood Protection Project, nearing completion of its first phase, aims to shield downtown San Jose's neighborhoods from potential severe flooding. Following the devastating floods of February 2017, the project will enhance over four miles of Coyote Creek with flood walls to manage increased water flow. The second phase is set to extend further and protect approximately 600 homes and businesses from similar flooding events while addressing the impacts of climate change and extreme weather patterns.
With extreme weather now becoming the new normal, we must protect our homes and neighborhoods against the severe floods that are projected to occur every two decades.
The combination of both phases will protect approximately 600 homes and businesses from floods up to the level that occurred on Feb. 21, 2017.
