The Zoox robotaxi, a subsidiary of Amazon, is an innovative autonomous vehicle designed for urban transport. After over a decade of development and substantial investment, it has undergone testing in Las Vegas but is not publicly available yet. Compared to competitors like Waymo, which operates in different cities, Zoox is still refining its services. Its recent invitation to journalists for rides hints at progress towards public accessibility, but challenges remain as it navigates the complexities of the autonomous transport market.
We've just tried to stay really steady, grounded, and focused on our mission, no matter what else is going on, said Zoox cofounder and CTO Jesse Levinson.
This is the second-generation Zoox robotaxi, a purpose-built autonomous shuttle that has been testing in and around Las Vegas for the last year and a half.
