'Dislocated' highlights the gritty reality of wilderness survival without medical aid, showcasing characters battling both physical injuries and mental health struggles. Mari's attempt to fix her dislocated knee serves as a stark reminder of the lacking medical resources, while other characters like Lottie, Shauna, and Tai face their own psychological challenges without professional support. The narrative intensifies with Ben offering Mari hot chocolate, a drink that ominously foreshadows potential danger, consistent with past season patterns, adding a layer of suspense at the story's climax.
One of the most horrifying things about being stuck in the wilderness is that there are no doctors. There are no hospitals or clinics or even medication to be had when something goes wrong.
We're also getting an idea of what happens when there's no mental-health care. Characters like Lottie, Shauna, and Tai, who should most certainly be seeing psychiatric professionals, are ... not.
Interestingly, Ben gives Mari a mug of hot chocolate as he deliberates about his next move. Hot chocolate has appeared in both of the season finales, and both times the drinker died minutes after drinking it.
Watching Mari shove her dislocated knee back into place with nary an Advil in sight was both nauseating and inspiring.
