The incident took place on the N25 at Stokestown in Co Wexford around 7.10pm on Sunday evening, resulting in the fatal injuries of a pedestrian.
No other injuries were reported, but the road remains closed this morning with local diversions in place through New Ross town.
Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to come forward and request any dash-cam footage from road users who were in the area at the time.
