"In my community, language is such a beautiful thing, but it's also a point of pain," Bondarenko emphasizes the emotional weight tied to language loss among the Alabama-Coushatta.
"They were hit with rulers and dealt with some stuff trying to adapt into this English-speaking society," Silva explains the traumatic historical context impacting language transmission.
"Other people come and take their land, try to take everything else from them," Bondarenko addresses the larger historical injustices that hinder the preservation of languages.
