"We have to cut our own path. We have to create a vision," Sherrill said, emphasizing the importance of showcasing a new direction for the Democratic party.
Spanberger, a former CIA case officer, highlighted that both women had experience in male-dominated fields and feel a responsibility to open doors for others.
"The decision to run for governor is not a decision to leave Congress; it's a decision to run for governor to be able to focus on the things that are our priority," Spanberger emphasized.
Sherrill noted the significance of their races in New Jersey and Virginia, stating, "These are the only two races in the nation, the first two races in the nation, where we can stand up and say: This is the vision that we have of the future."
