Ryan Borgwardt, a Wisconsin man, staged his drowning incident to leave his family and has been living in eastern Europe, actively communicating with authorities.
Sheriff Mark Podoll disclosed that despite Borgwardt's successful evasion, he expressed a wish to improve his situation by faking his drowning, misjudging the search effort.
Podoll revealed that the search for Borgwardt's body, which spanned over a month and cost approximately $35,000, was much longer than Borgwardt anticipated.
Borgwardt elaborated on his elaborate plan to escape, detailing how he overturned his kayak, disposed of his phone, and traveled across multiple states.
