"She's a busy kid. She's got to be moving, doing stuff, talking to people, climbing on stuff. Sitting quietly through an almost 3-hour Broadway show is a tall order, especially when the show starts at 7pm. We waited as long as we could just because who knows what was going to happen."
"But from the downbeat of the overture, she was locked in. Julie even tried to hand her snacks at one point, and she pushed her hand away and didn't even take her eyes away from the stage."
"I know that people spend a insane amount of money to come see Broadway shows, and the last thing you want is to be sitting next to an unruly toddler. He handed his wife a small stack of postcards to give to the ticketholders sitting near Greta."
Jordan Litz, who performed as Fiyero in Broadway's Wicked, wanted his young daughter Greta to see him on stage before his final performances. Despite Greta being only 2 years old and typically active and restless, Litz and his wife Julie decided to bring her to the show during his last weekend. They prepared extensively with snacks, coloring books, and entertainment options, expecting she might leave early. Surprisingly, Greta remained completely engaged from the opening overture through both acts, refusing snacks and never looking away from the stage. Litz distributed postcards to nearby audience members explaining the situation and thanking them for their patience, though this courtesy proved unnecessary as the surrounding patrons were supportive.
