The poker table was like every money table I had sat at. It was an opportunity to learn skills. Skills like capital allocation, taking risks, and learning how to strategize.
We want women to feel like something is at risk, and they have to make a decision. They may win. They may lose... it starts to feel less uncomfortable to take those risks - at the poker table, asking for the raise, asking for the promotion.
Playing poker helped me identify internalized risk-averse behaviors that may have been hampering my career as a journalist and author... a much more confident and assertive version of myself.
