Wendy's plans to close 140 underperforming U.S. restaurants but will open 250-300 new locations this year, focusing on enhancing customer experience and brand performance.
Kirk Tanner highlighted that the closed restaurants 'are just in locations that don't build our brand,' emphasizing the need to update older locations to meet consumer demand.
Despite the closures, Tanner assured investors of a better overall performance by opening new restaurants which 'deliver well over the average of these poor-performing restaurants.'
With 7,292 locations at the close of Q3, Wendy's aims to optimize its brand by focusing on quality over quantity in restaurant performance.
