Weather tracker: Europe braces for another heatwave with highs of 44C
Briefly

Central and eastern Europe is facing a heatwave as hot air from south-western Europe pushes north-west. Since late July, parts of the Iberian peninsula have seen temperatures in the high 30s to low 40s Celsius. A weather station in Spain recorded 42.7C, about 18C above the August norm. Conditions have ignited wildfires, notably in France, where a blaze in Aude became the largest in 75 years. A high-pressure system will raise temperatures by 10-15C in the north, with France, Spain, and parts of Germany expected to see extreme heat over the coming days.
A weather station in Talavera de la Reina, Spain recorded 42.7C, which was approximately 18C above the local normal for August. This intense heat makes conditions ideal for wildfires.
Aude, Occitanie has experienced France's largest wildfire for 75 years, burning an area the size of Paris, resulting in one death and 13 injuries, including 11 firefighters.
A broad system is shifting warm air north and east, leading to temperatures 10-15C above average in northern France and extending into Benelux and central and eastern Europe.
The upcoming heatwave could see parts of France reach 35-40C and areas in Spain and Portugal hit 43-44C, marking the start of a widespread hot spell.
