Waterford Airport backers insist cost of extending runway represents 'incredible value for money'

Independent TD Matt Shanahan characterized Waterford Airport as being caught in a 'vice-like grip' by State officials who seem resistant to allowing it to compete with larger airports like Dublin and Cork.

Junior Transport Minister James Lawless indicated his commitment to the project, acknowledging the importance of connectivity to the southeast, but expressed serious concerns regarding the project's escalating costs from €12 million to over €27 million.

Lawless emphasized the need for more information and clarity regarding the business case for Waterford Airport, noting discrepancies that have arisen since the initial proposal was submitted.
