Wall bed maker waited to report defect that led to 1 death and more than a dozen injuries
Briefly

Bestar has agreed to a civil penalty exceeding $16 million for failing to report a defect in its wall beds that led to one death and multiple injuries.
Federal officials stated Bestar was aware of 35 incidents, including a fatality, yet knowingly failed to report the serious risk that their wall beds posed.
Despite engaging with the CPSC, Bestar did not disclose five additional incidents of injuries related to their wall beds before the settlement was reached.
The settlement includes a recall of approximately 129,000 wall beds sold in the U.S., following reports of injuries and a death linked to the product.
