Self-driving truck startup Waabi has announced a partnership with Volvo Autonomous Solutions to co-develop and deploy autonomous trucks, which signifies an important step towards their commercial launch. Waabi's technology will be integrated into Volvo's chassis, aiming to initiate commercial pilots in Texas soon, with an expected fully driverless operation anticipated shortly after. Raquel Urtasun, Waabi's CEO, emphasizes the company's advancements in artificial intelligence, which improve efficiency and reduce data dependency, underlining a decisive leap towards autonomous vehicle (AV) integration in the trucking industry.
We now have everything we need to scale our product. We have the next-generation AV 2.0 technology, a much more capital efficient approach, and a faster path to market.
Urtasun claims to have built AI models that can reason as a human would, which speeds up commercial deployment and makes for a more efficient system overall.
