USDOT sues Southwest Airlines over 'chronically delayed' flights
Briefly

The USDOT's investigation found that "Southwest operated two chronically delayed flights... that resulted in 180 flight disruptions for passengers between April and August 2022." This lawsuit comes as a significant action, highlighting the department's commitment to ensuring timely travel for passengers.
Southwest's spokesperson Laura Swift expressed disappointment by stating, "Since DOT issued its Chronically Delayed Flight (CDF) policy in 2009, Southwest has operated more than 20 million flights with no other CDF violations." This emphasizes the airline's operational history.
In addition, USDOT is taking "enforcement action" against Frontier Airlines and has fined them $650,000 in civil penalties. The fine underscores the department's proactive stance on maintaining airline accountability.
Earlier this month, the USDOT announced a $2 million penalty against JetBlue for similar issues of operating chronically delayed flights, further illustrating the broader enforcement efforts targeting delayed operations.
