The Commerce Department is considering new rules that would impose restrictions on Chinese drones, highlighting national security concerns regarding potential remote access by adversaries.
Secretary Gina Raimondo mentioned that the department could impose rules similar to those restricting Chinese cars, focusing on drones with Chinese and Russian components.
Last month, President Biden signed legislation that might ban DJI and Autel Robotics from introducing new drone models in the U.S., emphasizing ongoing security evaluations.
DJI, which controls more than half of the U.S. commercial drone market, warned that if an agency doesn’t complete the safety evaluation in time, it would hinder their new product launches.
