Julio González Jr., after agreeing to deportation, was taken to El Salvador instead of Venezuela. He described horrific treatment in the Terrorism Confinement Center, stating he was beaten, robbed, and denied legal access. After 125 days, he returned to Caracas along with others in a U.S.-Venezuelan deal, reuniting with families. Many former detainees reported on their severe treatment after being isolated for months.
"I practically felt like an animal," González told.
In the four months he spent there, González said, he was beaten repeatedly with wooden bats. Some guards would kick the detainees in the chest or stomach, he said.
The United States has paid the Salvadoran government of President Nayib Bukele $6 million to hold hundreds of migrants rounded up in President Donald Trump's mass removals.
González said he was robbed of thousands of dollars, and denied access to lawyers or a chance to call his family.
