The U.S. Department of Justice is investigating the deadly police shooting of a Black woman, Sonya Massey, who was killed in her home after calling 911.
Former Deputy Sean Grayson was indicted on three counts of first-degree murder for the shooting of Sonya Massey, with evidence showing the use of deadly force was unjustified.
Sheriff Paula Crouch stated that the Sangamon County Sheriff's Office is committed to transparency and has engaged in discussions to cooperate fully with the DOJ's investigation.
The review by Illinois State Police found that the former deputy's use of deadly force was not justified, leading to his firing from the Sheriff's Office.
