UN suspends all travel into Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen
Briefly

In response to the recent detention of seven UN personnel by Yemen's Houthi rebels, the United Nations has suspended all travel into Houthi-controlled areas. This measure follows the previous detention of 16 Yemeni staff members and is intended to safeguard the remaining UN workforce. The situation is critical, as the UN’s humanitarian efforts, which rely on the safety of their personnel, are increasingly threatened by these arbitrary detentions. Secretary-General António Guterres condemned the actions of the Houthis, highlighting the detrimental impact on humanitarian assistance in Yemen, where millions are in dire need of aid.
"Yesterday, the de facto authorities in Sanaa detained additional UN personnel working in areas under their control," a UN statement read.
"The continued targeting of UN personnel and its partners negatively impacts our ability to assist millions of people in need in Yemen," he warned in a statement.
