Ubisoft has pulled the plug on XDefiant just six months after its full release, marking a short lifespan for a title hoped to be a revenue stream.
The shutdown of XDefiant, especially so soon after Concord's scuttling, could be just another sign of how challenging the live-service game market is.
Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot acknowledged the troubles in an internal memo, saying he was committed to correcting them and maintaining control of the company's destiny.
XDefiant started strong, breaking internal records with over five million players, but enthusiasm faded quickly, leading to unsustainable concurrent player numbers.
