Gary Kelly and Dean Thornton appeared in court facing serious charges including drug offenses and money laundering. The charges date back to crimes alleged between June 2023 and January 2025. Notably, both men were remanded in custody as the court couldn't grant bail for more severe organized crime charges. A request was made for the men to be held in Mountjoy Prison due to security concerns, which the Gardaí did not oppose. They are set to appear again in court on January 28.
Judge Coggins noted that the court did not have jurisdiction to consider bail applications In relation to the Section 72 charges of facilitating organised crime.
Both men were remanded in custody to appear before Drogheda District Court, sitting in Dundalk, next Tuesday January 28.
