Tulip Siddiq has been named in an anti-corruption investigation in Bangladesh involving a 2013 nuclear power deal from which large sums were allegedly embezzled.
Claims against Siddiq are said to be unfounded; she is portrayed as merely a family member at events related to an alleged corrupt deal between Bangladesh and Russia.
Siddiq’s aunt, Sheikh Hasina, previously prime minister for two decades, faces broader corruption allegations and is seen by critics as an autocrat.
The investigation is fueled by accusations from a political opponent of Hasina, who claims her family benefited financially from the power plant deal.
