Priester's Pecans, an iconic business in Fort Payne, Alabama, is positioned to benefit from millions in federal funding aimed at expanding electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across the state. However, a recent communication from a Trump administration official suspended the spending of these funds, stemming from the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) program under the 2021 Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. This has left nearly 90% of the allocated funds uncertain, with some states, including Alabama, already pausing their involvement in the EV infrastructure initiative, complicating the federal rollout.
Even before the administration had issued its letter, some Republican-led states, including Alabama, had already announced pauses to their states' implementation of the national EV charging program.
The Federal Highway Administration rescinded guidance on the funds, which had been allocated by Congress, and is also immediately suspending the approval of all State Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Deployment plans.
