Tony Bennett, one of the winningest coaches in ACC history and the architect of Virginia's 2019 national championship, has announced his immediate retirement, effective Thursday.
ACC Commissioner Jim Phillips praised Bennett as a fierce competitor and a tremendous person who led with integrity and impacted countless student-athletes throughout his career.
Ending with a 364-136 record over 15 seasons at Virginia, Bennett is recognized as a legend in college basketball, having led the Cavaliers to 10 straight winning seasons.
Tony Bennett's retirement leaves a significant void in college basketball, as he not only excelled on the court but also exemplified class, values, and integrity as a coach.
