Three hikers from Massachusetts were rescued in New Hampshire after they encountered severe whiteout conditions and sustained cold-related injuries during a winter hike. The New Hampshire Fish and Game Department responded to an SOS alert from their Garmin device, indicating the hikers struggled to follow the trail toward the summit of Mount Lafayette. Rescuers reached them after hours of hiking, and the group, although well-prepared, lacked experience in harsh conditions. Despite their panic, the hikers had Hike Safe cards, providing coverage for their rescue.
"Eventually it was learned from the group that they were experiencing whiteout conditions and suffering from cold related injuries, eventually stating [through] text that they needed help."
