Thousands protested in Denver against ICE raids targeting undocumented immigrants, voicing outrage over the Trump administration's strict immigration policies. Local artist Amanda Starks emphasized community unity in the face of threats, asserting that the political climate has worsened since 2016. Trump's plan, dubbed Operation Aurora, specifically targets gang members in Colorado, impacting around 155,000 undocumented residents. Legal support remains scarce with funding cuts to advocacy groups, intensifying the crisis. Heavy SWAT operations conducted in local neighborhoods led to widespread fear and community protests supporting immigrant rights.
"We're here to fight for our neighbors, to stand together and say no to the threats from the Trump administration," Amanda Starks, a local artist at a rally, stated.
"I think this is worse than in 2016, when we thought the GOP would stand up to Trump. Now they're all Christian nationalist yes-men," she added.
"Operation Aurora, named for the Denver suburb, has been implemented by the U.S. president with an emphasis on alleged gang members," highlighting Trump’s focus on Colorado.
"Due to the large volume of those in need, Colorado has one of the lowest rates of legal representation for undocumented immigrants," indicating the challenges faced.
