Jillian Marie Sayegh, an actor and model, shares her journey of renting and decorating a challenging 450-square-foot apartment in New York City. After navigating a competitive rental market post-COVID, she found a suitable space for $2000 a month. Although the apartment was in disrepair, Jillian dedicated herself to renovations, believing that a rental can be both beautiful and budget-friendly. Her journey reflects resilience and creativity, blending secondhand shopping with interior design aspirations to transform her home into a cherished space.
Before moving in, Jillian describes the space as "so sad. It was dark, cold, many things were broken, the vibe was off, this place needed TLC."
Jillian firmly believes that a "rental apartment can be beautiful - especially when decorated on a budget."
After a having to deal with a too-eager agent and the listing being removed for repairs, Jillian took the chance and has rented this space for $2000 a month for three years.
I also demoed shelves on my first day in the apartment that were blocking my living room window. These were clearly built by someone very skilled - it took hours!
