These Silicon Valley apartments will get their heat from nearby data centers
Briefly

"We have excess capacity on the grid today," says Patti Poppe, PG&E's CEO. "Right now, the grid in the area is only about 45% utilized. Data centers can tap into clean power, and adding them also helps with overall costs." This connection between data centers and residential energy shows a potential for significant cost savings on electricity for local residents.
The proposed project is the first in the U.S. to send excess heat from data centers to the local community at a large scale-making use of the abundant heat generated as servers process and use data. This innovative approach is part of San Jose's broader initiative to reduce emissions and promote sustainable energy solutions.
