Air New Zealand has been named the safest full-service airline for 2025, maintaining the title for a second consecutive year, outperforming Qantas by a slim margin of 1.50 points.
Sharon Petersen, the CEO of AirlineRatings.com, emphasized that while both Air New Zealand and Qantas uphold the highest safety standards, Air New Zealand's newer fleet gives it an edge.
A tie for third place was noted between Cathay Pacific, Qatar Airways, and Emirates, due to equal ratings across fleet age, pilot skill, and safety practices.
The rankings were derived from various safety criteria, including serious incidents, fleet age and size, incident rates, and pilot training effectiveness.
