The Week in Business: is Reeves right to be an optimist?
Briefly

This week saw Barclays tighten its work-from-home policy, requiring employees to be in the office at least three days a week. This change reflects a broader trend among large corporations. Simultaneously, the Resolution Foundation warned about fiscal rule challenges, while the Competition watchdog initiated pro-growth discussions. Politically, there was a focus on growth led by the optimistic Chancellor, reminiscent of Gordon Brown's continuous smile. However, questions arose about the government's sudden regulatory and infrastructure ambitions that weren't previously mentioned in their manifesto, suggesting possible hidden agendas or new strategic shifts.
Where has this zeal come from? If the Labour manifesto had said we're going to build a third runway at Heathrow... I'd probably have voted for them.
A genuine effort to strip troublesome regulators of the power to block vital developments; new runways here there and everywhere, new housebuilding, new towns, new rail lines.
