Following the ceasefire in Gaza, Asdaa camp experienced a bustling market as residents took advantage of decreased prices for basic necessities. Ahmad Al-Amarna noted the decrease in prices allowed for purchases previously unaffordable, while many expressed relief over the end of violence. However, overwhelming challenges remain, including devastated healthcare services, scarcity of water and fuel, and dire living conditions exacerbated by winter weather. Humanitarian officials warn of potential famine and disease without increased aid. Residents like Ghalia Sobeh report struggles despite lower prices and dependency on aid for survival for her family of eight.
Ahmad Al-Amarna expressed gratitude for the ceasefire's impact on prices, stating, 'I am very happy that prices have dropped, and now people can buy things they had wished for but couldn't afford before.'
Despite the lower prices, Ghalia Sobeh highlighted ongoing struggles, saying, 'Now the prices have come down a bit, but it is still very hard. We have no source of income. We live on charity and aid.'
