The US PIRG's report indicates a positive shift in the Right to Repair landscape, with 68% of repair professionals noting improved access to parts. However, challenges persist, particularly related to high prices and low order caps. Legislative changes have been noteworthy, as 30 states have considered Right to Repair laws, with six states enacting eight new laws. While tech giants like Apple are making headway, issues such as parts pairing remain contentious, signaling that more must be done for a fully repairable future within the industry.
Yet significant barriers remain, with many respondents citing restrictive order caps and high pricing, described as one of the "main barriers to repairing electronics."
According to the report, 30 US states by last year have "considered" some form of Right to Repair legislation, and PIRG noted that over the last three years, six US states had passed a total of eight Right to Repair laws.
