The Italian American Museum (IAM) is the first institution dedicated to the Italian American experience in New York City, aiming to celebrate and preserve Italian American culture.
Dr. Joseph V. Scelsa, the museum's founder, was inspired by a successful exhibition on Italian Americans at the New-York Historical Society, which prompted the museum's establishment.
The museum offers both permanent and temporary exhibits, educational and cultural programming, and aims to serve as a cultural hub for the Italian American community.
Inaugural exhibitions include a focus on unique cultural artifacts like Sicilian marionettes and the contributions of Italian Americans in the garment industry.
