United Airlines is set to offer free Starlink WiFi on its regional aircraft by spring, eventually upgrading its full fleet of 1,000 planes to high-speed internet access as part of a broader trend in the airline industry.
By year-end, United's entire regional fleet will be equipped with Starlink. This move comes as United joins other carriers like Delta and JetBlue in providing complimentary WiFi, showcasing a shift towards enhanced onboard connectivity.
Starlink, a SpaceX subsidiary, utilizes low-orbit satellites to deliver consistent and fast internet in remote locations, highlighting its superiority over traditional providers like Viasat, which has fewer satellites and lower speeds.
With existing charges for WiFi ranging from $8 to $10 depending on flight specifics, United's MileagePlus loyalty program members will receive free access to Starlink for browsing and streaming, increasing the value of their membership.
