The architecture graduate tasked with recording Notre-Dame's renovation-in pencil and chalk
Briefly

Since December 2020, Axelle Ponsonnet has documented the restoration of Notre-Dame de Paris using ancient techniques, capturing details that represent the cathedral's rich history.
Ponsonnet, despite initial uncertainty about her path in heritage restoration, found solace in her drawing process. 'Working on these drawings thus became a tool for better understanding the monument, for making it my own'.
Her nighttime explorations during quieter hours gave her a unique perspective on Notre-Dame's current state, allowing her to capture 'impressive, mystical' moments amid restoration efforts.
In her documentation, Ponsonnet has highlighted both the tangible and intangible aspects of the restoration, from ancient architectural details to recent moments of human connection, such as a young carpenter's bouquet of yellow mimosas.
