The flooding in northern Thailand, particularly in Chiang Mai, has dislocated hundreds of residents and forced various animals to seek higher ground due to heavy monsoon rains.
Local authorities reported that the Ping River in Chiang Mai reached an unprecedented level, leading to evacuations at the Elephant Nature Park, home to 3,000 rescued animals.
Despite extensive rescue efforts, reports indicated that at least one elephant had drowned and over 30 others were still unaccounted for amidst the flooding.
Deputy Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai stated that 117 elephants were rescued, as well as many smaller animals, during the emergency response to the flooding.
