Tezos has launched its 17th protocol upgrade, Quebec, which enhances operational performance by reducing layer 1 block time from 10 to 8 seconds and adjusting staking parameters. Developed by Nomadic Labs, Trilitech, and Functori, this upgrade allows bakers to accept a higher external stake and alters staking rewards, promoting a 3x return on directly held stakes as opposed to the previous 2x ratio. The changes maintain decentralized participation while addressing inflation control and network security through community consultations. The upgrade also refines the Adaptive Issuance mechanism for better alignment with network conditions.
