Undercover testing by The Markup uncovered that numerous mental health crisis websites are sending sensitive visitor data to Facebook via Meta Pixel, an alarming breach of privacy.
Information transmitted included potential emergency calls made by clicking dedicated buttons, as well as contact information like names and email addresses, raising serious privacy concerns.
More than 30 local crisis center websites associated with the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline utilize the Meta Pixel, which captures varying degrees of visitor behavior.
The findings expose a troubling reality where vulnerable individuals seeking mental health help may inadvertently compromise their privacy by interacting with these websites.
