Motspur Park station in South London has installed step-free access for the first time in its history, coinciding with its centenary. Originally opened in 1925, the station used a narrow, old footbridge until a modern structure with three lifts was recently completed. The upgraded facilities include a new waiting room and accessible toilet, enhancing passenger experience. Mark Goodall of Network Rail expressed the importance of making the railway accessible for all, reflecting ongoing investment and commitment by the Department for Transport.
Mark Goodall, Network Rail's Wessex route director, stated, "We're working to make the railway easier to use for everyone...delighted that the island platform at Motspur Park now has step-free access."
After two years of work, the new lifts were formally opened just ahead of the station's centenary, providing much-needed step-free access for all passengers.
