Status Orange alert: Temperatures drop to -5.7C as forecasters warn freezing spell 'isn't going anywhere'

A Status Orange warning is currently in effect for 22 counties, signaling extremely cold conditions and severe frost, which may cause dangerous travelling situations.

Met Éireann cautioned that the severe frost, ice, and snow could disrupt travel and potentially pose risks to animal welfare across the warned areas.

A second Status Orange warning will be implemented later today, covering nearly all counties with the exception of Donegal, emphasizing ongoing severe weather threats.

In addition to the Status Orange warnings, a nationwide Status Yellow Low Temperature and Ice warning is active, underscoring the widespread nature of this weather event.
