South Africa and Malaysia to launch campaign to protect justice
Briefly

South Africa and Malaysia are spearheading a nine-nation campaign, known as the Hague Group, to defend the rulings of the ICJ and ICC against increasing defiance, particularly in light of US Congress sanctions. The initiative aims to uphold international law, particularly concerning recent conflicts in Gaza and Ukraine, and respond to perceived double standards in international governance. South Africa's Minister Ronald Lamola stressed that no nation is above the law. This campaign reflects a growing sentiment among nations in the Global South regarding Western powers' apparent disregard for international legal norms.
"The Hague Group's formation sends a clear message: no nation is above the law, and no crime will go unanswered," said South Africa's international relations minister.
"This campaign aims to defend the institutions and rulings of the international legal order in the face of efforts that undermine their authority," Lamola noted.
Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim emphasized that current actions against the ICJ and ICC strike at the very foundations of international law.
UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres indicated that member states must ensure Israel complies with rulings condemning its actions in occupied territories.
