Snow and ice warning extended to six counties as whole country braced for plunging temperatures

Met Éireann issued a Status Yellow warning for counties Cavan, Donegal, Monaghan, Leitrim, Sligo and Mayo due to hazardous road conditions and poor visibility.

As temperatures plummet with icy conditions forecast, Met Éireann warns of widespread frost, hazardous travel conditions, especially in northern parts of the country.

Niall MacCarthy, Managing Director at Cork Airport, highlighted the shift in focus for maintenance teams from summer activities to winter operational readiness for snow and ice events.

Meteorologist Brandon Creagh noted that Ireland's unusually mild weather this month was 'a good few degrees above the average' prior to the expected cold snap.
