'Smash' the musical is officially opening on Broadway in 2025!
Briefly

"Smash is near and dear to my heart, and it was always my hope that a musical inspired by the show would eventually come to the stage," Spielberg said in a statement. He emphasized the emotional connection to the project and his desire to see it evolve from a TV concept to a live theater performance, noting the immense talent involved in bringing this vision to fruition.
The production will be directed by five-time Tony award-winning director Susan Stroman, featuring a score by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman. They wrote over two dozen songs for the NBC series, ensuring the stage adaptation retains the musical essence that fans cherish while also introducing new material.
Plot-wise, the musical will chronicle the "hilarious behind-the-scenes rollercoaster ride about the making of a Marilyn Monroe musical called Bombshell, with all the iconic songs, kick-ass choreography, and backstage pandemonium that make Broadway the beloved institution it is today." This promises to capture the charm and chaos of musical theater living.
While fans of the TV show will notice an entirely different story with new characters, one familiar face returning is Ivy Lynn. Originally played by Megan Hilty, the stage role will now be performed by Tony-nominated Robyn Hurder, bridging the gap between the original show and the Broadway adaptation.
