On Monday, a small plane with six people crashed southeast of Costa Rica’s capital, resulting in five fatalities and one critical injury, as confirmed by the Red Cross.
The aircraft, a Cessna 206 Stationair, lost communication shortly after takeoff and disappeared from radar near Pico Blanco mountain, leading to a difficult search.
The plane was bound for Tobias Bolanos airport but had to divert to Juan Santamaria airport due to inclement weather—a factor that might have contributed to the crash.
Five of the passengers were pronounced dead at the scene, while a 31-year-old woman remains in critical condition, as local authorities begin investigations into the incident.
