Seeing Past Our Information Bubbles

In selecting platforms or channels that lean in our preferred political direction, we take the easy path and select "agreeable news". Psychological defenses such as denial, confirmation bias, and skepticism kick in, and pretty soon we dismiss our way into a safe, unchallenged information bubble with only one point of view: Ours. In this way, we avoid cognitive dissonance and discomfort since we avoid having to consider opposing facts or defend our own opinions.
Social media platforms have nearly tripled total users in the last decade, from 970 million in 2010 to over 5.17 billion users by July 2024. The average social media user has accounts on 6.6 different social media platforms, and checks their feeds almost constantly.
