"My dad kept going, 'You can be normal in college. Go and have a normal college experience,' but he would later come to regret this advice," Jenna shared, recalling her early college years when she faced legal troubles for drinking underage and using a fake ID. She humorously noted how her father's encouragement for a 'normal' college experience quickly shifted to urging her to focus on academics after her missteps.
"The next day in the National Enquirer they said I was a devil worshipper because I made that sign! Y'all don't know Texas, man!" This reflects on the intensity of media scrutiny Jenna experienced as a college student, tied to her family's political stature.
"When I called my dad to say, 'I'm really sorry'... he said, 'No, I'm sorry.' We embarrassed them, although they never said it, on the world stage," Jenna reflected on how her early mistakes impacted her family, showing a candid side of their parental relationship with a hint of humor.
"While we were growing up, I for one had parents that let us fail, let us fall and publicly. And I always say to them now, 'How brave of you,' because it didn't reflect great parenting at the time," Jenna emphasized the importance of allowing children to experience failure as essential for growth.
