The aftermath of Storm Éowyn continues to disrupt lives, particularly affecting about 100,000 rural households projected to remain without power for an additional week. While the ESB Networks has successfully restored electricity to 588,000 homes, challenges remain with telecommunications and water supplies. Emergency Response Hubs are being established to provide assistance in severely affected areas, focusing on basic needs like water and food. Schools impacted by the storm had evaluations conducted to assess their readiness to resume classes as conditions improve.
Around a dozen schools in the northwest and border counties suffered varying degrees of storm damage last Friday, the majority in rural areas.
The National Emergency Co-ordination Group (NECG) said yesterday that Emergency Response Hubs would be set up in the worst-affected areas to help people with basic needs.
