Schools face disruption as blustery conditions of Storm Herminia hamper efforts to repair devastation caused by Storm Eowyn
Briefly

Around 100,000 rural customers remain without power a week after Storm Éowyn devastated the region, although the majority may see restoration by Friday. Schools that closed during the storm are evaluating their readiness to reopen, while Emergency Response Hubs are being established to assist impacted communities with necessities. The ongoing repair effort faces challenges due to harsh weather from Storm Herminia, with nearly 350,000 households affected by water service interruptions, complicating the response and recovery efforts.
Principals were assessing schools yesterday with support from the Department of Education to determine if classwork can resume today in locations where thousands of homes are still without power and water.
The National Emergency Co-ordination Group (NECG) said yesterday that Emergency Response Hubs would be set up in the worst-affected areas to help people with basic needs such as water, hot food, phone-charging, broadband access, shower and clothes-washing facilities.
