Saratoga takes steps toward traffic safety near local schools
Briefly

Saratoga has initiated a plan to enhance sidewalk and crosswalk safety around schools, aiming for safer student travel. The city council approved a contract with Fehr and Peers to design improvements for seven intersections at five schools. The plan includes high-visibility crosswalks and better signage, with $1 million budgeted for the overall implementation. Construction is targeted for 2025. Mayor Aftab emphasized the importance of visibility, particularly during shorter winter days, given the city's limited streetlight availability.
It's going to make [it] materially safer to cross the street, which sounds like a simple thing, but it's really important, Aftab said.
Mainini Cabute, the city's environmental programs manager, said the firm will design the plans for the project in about three to four months with the goal of starting construction in 2025.
